Davinder Hart
Davinder Hart is an Indigenous artist with deep roots in both the Bibbulmun people of the Noongar Nation in Western Australia and the Ngemba people of New South Wales. Born in Perth, his early years were spent in Adelaide before moving to Katanning, located in the southwest region of Noongar Country, where he was immersed in the cultural traditions of his community. His connection to Country and culture strengthened as he grew, learning the ways of his ancestors.
In 2013, Davinder traveled to Ayers Rock Resort, where he became an Indigenous cultural activities presenter. There, he shared his heritage with visitors from all over the world, offering workshops on boomerang and spear throwing, bush tucker, didgeridoo playing, and traditional dance. His role allowed him to not only teach but to immerse himself more deeply in his cultural roots.
Davinder's artistic practice is deeply influenced by the Ngemba people, with whom he feels a strong sense of identity and belonging. Through the guidance of his uncles and elders, he continues to practice traditional ways of living on Country. His paintings serve as a reflection of the stories and knowledge passed down to him, blending cultural traditions with personal experiences. The narratives in his artwork convey the moral and ethical teachings of his ancestors while also charting his personal journey of cultural discovery.
Since 2016, Davinder has lived in Far North Queensland, where he continues to honour his heritage and acknowledges the invaluable teachings of his uncle Waylon Boney and his grandfather Paul Gordon. Through his art, Davinder shares the rich and timeless wisdom of his people, offering a visual testament to the strength of Indigenous cultural continuity.
